Dear Jon:
Something very sad happened to a friend of ours recently. It broke my heart—and it most definitely broke hers. Afterwards, she talked how much her daughter—a girl who is a few months older than you—helped her get through this very difficult event. A neighbor across the street, who also had a similar experience this spring, said the same thing—having her son was what kept her going.
This reinforced something I already knew: that having you is what makes my world keep turning. Having a child—especially a young child—is what gives a parent the strength to handle anything. Because you simply CAN’T completely fall apart: you have to take care of the child, you have to stay sane, you have to protect him. I am so glad I have you—and your Daddy as my best friend and the source of my strength.
I love you more than you will ever know,
Mom
