A piece of home

Dear Jon:

On your first day of school (or maybe it was second), when you were balking at the whole idea of going to school, you asked to bring your Pooh pillow with you—which is a pillow with Winnie the Pooh pillowcase. You wanted to take it with you to the car, and I didn’t want to argue. When we got to school, you wanted to bring the pillow into the classroom, and that’s where I had to draw the line. Who brings the pillow with them to school? Did I mention that you do not take a nap at the school since the pick up time is at 1 pm? In any case, while I do think it was a reasonable request, I didn’t think it would be a good idea to bring your pillow to school. But you were not budging. So I suggested that you bring just your pillow case instead.

Every day since then (and we are in the second month of preschool now), you have been bringing your pillow case with you every day. I wonder if anyone has done this before…

You are truly one of the kind, and I love every little piece of you.

Mom

P.S.: A funny postscript to this story happened in week two of preschool. When we were heading to school on Monday morning, I forgot to suggest that you bring a blanket or a pillow case with you. So we arrived at school empty-handed. You got your hands on the only thing you could find in the car—Daddy’s swim trunks that were hanging up to dry in the back of the car. There were stinky, but you didn’t care. You were hanging on to them for dear life. And while I did consider letting you take them into school, I didn’t think Daddy would appreciate it.
