Dear Jon,

November 2006 was a historic month. Democrats took control of the House and the Senate, and the last race that gave the Democrats the majority in the Senate was right here in Virginia. I had to work late unexpectedly on Election Day, so you and Daddy picked me up at the metro and we rushed to the polls. We got there two minutes before the polls closed. On the way there, you were talking about how excited you were to go voting with us. When we got inside, you took a sweeping look around the school gym (our polling place) and said, "I don’t see any boats." We burst out laughing when we realized that you confused voting with boating.
